Great run out this morning away at Meols Cop against Southport FC Community
Fair play to Southport for getting the game on A few bits were being sorted when we arrived, but they worked hard to have everything ready and it turned into a really competitive morning — wind and all!
Joseph was missing through illness today — get well soon — but it was fantastic to welcome Eric back after his long spell out
From the first whistle we looked sharp. The through balls were flowing, spacing was much improved, and we stretched the pitch well instead of bunching up in attacking areas.
There’s clear progress on set pieces — the lads organising themselves for corners and reacting quickly to second balls, which is giving us more opportunities in and around the box.
Southport brought plenty of physicality and had a couple who powered through like steam trains! A proper challenge and great experience for the boys.
We mixed things up with rotating the boys - Joey starting in goal and doing brilliantly in the first half. Patrick stepped in as guest keeper after the break (big thanks!), allowing Joey to head outfield and make an impact — unlucky not to score an absolute rocket
One standout moment was a superb team goal: calmly played out from the back, everyone involved, worked through the lines before Harvey, cool as you like, wrong-footed the keeper and finished it off. Proper goal of the season moment
With so many contributing and working selflessly, it’s tough to single individuals out — which is exactly what you want as a coach. That said, Eric marked his return with a great performance at the back and deservedly took the S & A 'Player of the match' award, and after consistent performances that haven’t gone unnoticed on the touchline, Mark was presented with S & A parents 'Player of the Month.'
Pictured are the boys with their awards.
Another positive step forward. Proud of every one of them
