Saturday Senior Reserves

‘Back in the groove’ is the headline today for our Saturday Senior Reserves. Missing George Fletcher and Ethan Stroud through injury manager Dave Stroud was still able to name a full squad with two new signings on the bench in Hayden Conning and Dan Reid.
S & A started brightly and after just 10 mins were presented a big opportunity to take control when an opposition player was red carded for hand ball thwarting striker Jack Osborne to get on the scoresheet.
Unfortunately Antonio Berisha blazed his penalty wide. It didn’t take long for S & A to press their advantage on 19 mins when Peter Moretti broke through to square to Jack Osborne for a neat finish. Good build up play was key for the goal after a passage of play from Adam Haines, Luca Intonazzo and Dan Thompson.
Moretti added a second on 26 mins but if it wasn’t for a tremendous close range save from goalkeeper Josh Oldfield Tom Finney FC would of cut the deficit. Dan Thompson put the game beyond the visitors with a thunderbolt free kick that made it three nil on 39 mins.

Even though the manager was tempted to play three at the back and attack more S & A retained their shape of 4-2-3-1. Moretti scored his second goal of the game on 59 mins with Osborne this time being the provider.
Captain Tom Wright, Stephen Green, Jamie McCormack and Robson Baldwin were solid throughout the half. Osborne slotted his second again on 67 mins with a cool finish after breaking from the right. Moretti secured his hat-trick on 84 mins beating the keeper low to his right.
The game was basically finished when emergency striker Green could of scored what would been just his fourth goal in 294 apps for the red and whites. Unfortunately as he was just about to pull the trigger the defender cleared. Well played to all the players and especially good to see club captain Lewis Thornton back after injury.
