S & A Saturday Reserves made the long journey to Lancaster to face a strong Highgrove FC side who had won all of their league and cup games this season. The trip was made a little more difficult when both Olly Morton and Ethan Stroud pulled out through injury the morning of the game.
This left them with just one available sub to utilise.
S & A were immediately put under pressure by the home side as they had the majority of the play. The visitors had to make an enforced change on 15 mins when Dan Thompson came off with only sub Robson Baldwin replacing him. S & A made a few tactical changes and in all fairness they did create a number of chances but these were mainly from the 3-4 corners they forced in the opening half an hour. The game was constantly slowed down as Highgrove had their own weapon of a long throw which was deployed anywhere over the half way line. Jamie McCormack and Harman Von Arragon marshalled the defence well from this threat leaving goalkeeper Josh Oldfield simply to pick up the pieces.
Ht : 0-0
The second half started in a similar way to the first half with Highgrove on top. The heavy pitch was now taking it's toll on the visiting players with Tom Wright, Peter Moretti and Von Arragon struggling with injuries. To their credit they all carried on right to the end. It only took one goal on 68 mins for S & A to suddenly go backwards. Two further goals scored in quick succession sealed the victory for Highgrove. A last minute goal finished S & A off but to be fair there wasn't an awful lot more they could do considering the circumstances.
Well done to all the players for their commitment to fulfilling the fixture in what was a 120 mile round trip.
Ft : 4-0
