Oldfield sets the standard in solid away win at Shevington
Our Saturday senior reserves travelled to Wigan on Saturday afternoon without four regular starters in Berisha, Wright, Osborne and Morton all out for various reasons. Manager David Stroud was able to call upon quality reinforcements but unfortunately also lost Stephen Green to an injury in the warm up.
S & A started very brightly creating a trickle of half chances with Sean ‘dodge’ Doran, Peter Moretti and Dan Thompson going close. Shevington to their credit opened up the S & A defence with some quick breaks but striker Whittle fired over. The visitors keeper Josh Oldfield wasn’t troubled too much but when called upon he stood firm with excellent handling and commanding his area.
Thompson opened the scoring for S & A on 14 mins with a typical finish slotting home from 15 yards after good work from George Fletcher and full back come winger Joe Spooner.
Robson Baldwin, Harmen Von Arragon and captain Lewis Thornton saw the half out as S & A with some solid defending when called upon. The recalled Jamie McCormack was dominate once again winning most aerial battles.

The second half proved to be a good half for the men in red and white with striker Moretti scoring from the spot 63 mins after he was tripped. Then in the space of a minute Shevington had a tremendous free kick hit the bar which S & A cleared only for Moretti to break clear. He fed Fletcher who was was upended on the edge of the box. Moretti made no mistake from the spot for his second. The industrious Luca Intanozzo came off on 72 mins after running himself into the ground. He was was replaced by the reliable Adam Haines who stood firm in the middle. Thompson made way for Ethan Stroud who went up front with Moretti. Late call up Callum Thornton also came on and it was his run that led to the fourth for S & A sliding Stroud in who beat the defender and then unleashed his shot. The keeper made a good save but the lively Doran followed in for a tap in.
