Saturday Senior Reserves

Another successful away day for our Saturday Senior Reserves yesterday playing newcomers Aughton FC in Skelmersdale. Manager Dave Stroud had a full squad to choose from with three or four players not even making the match day squad. In what is now becoming an annoying habit S & A fell behind early on with them conceding in the first minute. With virtually a full game to get themselves sorted they basically took control. Playing a changed formation from previous matches they sorted themselves out quite quickly and equalised through Jack Osborne on 9 mins with a well taken finish from the edge of the box. George Fletcher, Olly Morton and Antonio Berisha together creating the chance for Osborne to score. Osborne scored again on 13 mins with a similar finish after good work from Tom Wright and Callum Thornton. Aughton found their feet with a couple of half chances but Captain Lewis Thornton, Joe Spooner and Robson Baldwin thwarted any chance they had to add to their tally. S & A had a hold on the midfield with Fletcher, Morton and Luca Intonazzo all contributing to an all round solid performance. Berisha scored his first on 34 mins slotting home with a cheeky finish after a pass from Osborne. He scored again on 40 mins with an unstoppable shot from the 18 yard line.

The second half was dominated by S & A but at no stage did they take their foot off the pedal. Subs played their part as well with Jamie McCormack just heading over with his first touch but also slotting seamlessly into defence. Adam Haines again showed a strong mentality as he linked well with the forward line on several occasions. Josh Oldfield in the S & A goal was in good form on the day with some excellent handling. Olly Morton scoring on 69 mins and 74 mins with two calm finishes to put the game way beyond the home team. Sub Ethan Stroud nearly added to the score with a tremendous 18 yard effort that was tipped over by the keeper but it was left to fellow sub Dan Thompson to round off a good display from S & A with the seventh. Good overall performance but what made the manager happy was the overall team effort as the team fought for everything for the full 90 mins.
