Saturday Senior Reserves

Saturday Senior Reserves suffered a second home defeat of the season when played a rejuvenated Broughton Amateurs side at Ainsdale Club this afternoon. Broughton had the better of the exchanges in the first 15 minutes of the game but didn’t trouble home keeper Josh Oldfield. S & A suddenly came to life with a few neat moves utilising a strong midfield of George Fletcher, Olly Morton and captain Lewis Thornton. Sean Doran going close with a few penetrating runs down the left. A dubious free kick lead to the visitors taking the lead when a well taken kick left the home goalkeeper rooted to his line.

The second half was mainly played in the Broughton half but S & A couldn’t take advantage of what was a dominate period in the half. Striker Peter Moretti making his comeback after being out for 6 weeks with injury levelled for S & A after guiding the ball home after a great piece of build up play from the back. George Fletcher with the assist. Broughton responded with 20 mins to go by taking the lead once again.
S & A almost immediately then lost winger Tom Wright through injury. Manager David Stroud utilising all his subs decided to go three at the back for the last 20 mins and it paid off as Moretti equalised again with just 5 mins remaining.
S & A almost sensed a winner was there for the taking but from one of their late attacks Broughton broke quickly and pinched a winner on 89 mins with a well taken finish.
A good end to end game of football played in the right spirit but given the possession in the second half the home team should and could of done better in and around the oppositions box.
