Darkness doesn't hold back S & A
Saturday Senior Reserves took on Southport Trinity in a local derby tonight in the Mid Lancashire Div 1
In what was a slow scrappy start to the game Trinity had best of the opening 10 mins going close with a couple of half chances. Andy Cain in the visitors goal stood strong as he protected his goal.
Tom Wright went close for S & A with a rasping shot after good run down the right. Joe Spooner made a great block to prevent the home side scoring early on. Trinity opened the scoring with a well taken shot from 20 yards out which gave keeper Cain no chance. S & A regrouped and started to create their own chances. On 26 mins Antonio Berisha scored a penalty to bring S & A level after good work from Jack Osborne, Sean Doran and Wright.
George Fletcher was taking a hold in the midfield with Adam Haines contributing as S & A clawed their way back into the game. Great work on the left saw Spooner, Robson Baldwin, Osborne and Wright all combine with a slick move before Doran scored at the far post on 33 mins ht : 1-2
The second half started as the first had finished with S & A in control with Callum Thornton releasing Wright down the wing and from his cross Osborne went close. Good defending from Captain Lewis Thornton prevented Trinity from creating chances on a couple of occasions.
The visitors made made a change on 58 mins when Luca Intanozzo was introduced for Haines and from his first touch he produced the goal of the game with a screamer from 25 yards out. Olly Morton was introduced from the bench and he went close with a snap shot that went over. Berisha scored his second for S & A with a beat finish on 66 mins. As the light deteriorated an unfortunate own goal on 71 mins made it five to S & A after a Baldwin corner.
The remaining two visiting substitutions came on and had an immediate impact with both Dan Thompson and Ethan Stroud going close as S & A searched for more goals.
A good win for S & A in tricky conditions but a well deserved three points as they continue their good start to the season.
