After their set back midweek at Tarleton our Saturday Senior Reserves travelled to Hoole Utd today. Missing seven of the squad from Tuesday manager David Stroud had to pull on his whole squad to create a team.
This season S & A are already renowned for their slow start and this proved to be the case again as they conceded two goals in the first nine minutes through unforced errors.
Hoole deserved their lead throughout the half as they created some very good chances.
With both squad goalkeepers unavailable emergency goalie Dan Thompson made a couple of vital blocks to keep the score down to just two. S & A went close with a free kick from Robson Baldwin, Jack Osborne, Tom Wright and Sean Doran also went close but it was from a penalty by Antonio Berisha that gave the visitors a ray of hope on 33 mins.
Ht 2-1
S & A took to the field for the second half and remained in the same shape. Baldwin again went close with a free kick. Joe Spooner, Lewis Thornton and Harmen Von Arragon all made timely interceptions to halt the Hoole attack. Adam Haines replaced Berisha on 64 mins and he gave S & A some drive from midfield linking well with George Fletcher. S & A’s remaining sub Brad Davenport was introduced for centre back Spooner as the manager went three at the back in a positive move to get back in the game. Five mins later Berisha was reintroduced for the hard working Callum Thornton and this proved to be the turning point as Berisha scored his second penalty and then gave S & A the lead just four mins later with a thunderous shot from twenty yards.
S & A stuck with their formation and scored a fourth when an own goal was conceded. Great win for S & A with the match ball going to man of the match Berisha for his hat-trick.
