S & A Saturday Seniors made the long journey to Morecambe on Saturday to take on Westgate FC in the Mid Lancashire Division 1.
As the team warmed up for the game the weather changed dramatically with an icy cold cross wind backed up with freezing rain. Both teams struggled to play in the horrendous conditions but S & A managed to create a few half chances with leading goalscorer Jack Osborne going close on a couple of occasions.
S & A built from the back with keeper Cole Wood’s distribution being key.
It was from his first long ball of the game that released Charles Lunt who fed winger Conor Bligh to chip a great cross for Osborne to score with a rare headed goal on 22 mins.
It took just a minute for Osborne to double his tally from the penalty spot after captain Tom Haworth was pushed in the box.
S & A dominated the half with both Connor Tierney and Andy Cain playing a part in a makeshift midfield.
S & A extended their lead when Bligh made no mistake as he made it three on 43 mins this time being assisted by Lunt.

The second half proved to be a more difficult game for the visitors with Westgate scoring two quick goals to bring them back into the game. It would be nice to blame the weather but the S & A lads all knew it was a lack of concentration that caused the problem. The two goals inspired Westgate and in a ten minute period they caused S & A to have a short period of nervous defending.
Two substitutions settled S & A down and they took hold of the game again but Osborne, Lunt and Bligh all missed opportunities to increase the lead.
The killer goal for S & A came when Osborne completed his hat trick on 73 mins with a neat finish after being put through by Bligh.
Overall a performance well worthy of taking the three points and as well as increasing S & A to a thirteen game unbeaten run.
The manager pointed out at the end of the game a special mention today went to Tierney and Cain for a solid performance in central midfield with the ‘Player of the match’ being awarded to Jack Osborne who took his seasons tally to 24.
