S & A Saturday Seniors welcomed Castle FC from Morecambe to Ainsdale Club today as they restarted their league campaign.
S & A set up with both Conor Bligh and Connor Tierney flanking main striker Jack Osborne in an attacking looking side suitably backed up by number 10 Charles Lunt. The home side were without both their choices of goalkeeper today but fortunately outfield player Andy Cain took the gloves and played his part in a solid performance from S & A.
It took just six minutes for S & A to take the lead when Tierney fed Osborne to score. Just ten minutes later Bligh scored the goal of the game with a bullet from twenty five yards out giving the keeper no chance after Dan Gautrey assisted. S & A made it three on 28 mins when clever play from Joe Gallen set up Osborne for his second of the game.
The fourth goal was added on 38 mins to the S & A tally after a tremendous move from Cain in goal who passed to Gautrey who moved the ball over the half way line to Lunt who then released Osborne down the left. Osborne’s powerful low cross was met by Tierney who flicked it over the keeper to put the game beyond Castle.
Ht: 4-0
The second half was played at a slower pace for the first ten minutes but Cain showed his true worth as a goalkeeper as he saved a Castle penalty on 52 mins.
Even though they were leading comfortably S & A had the luxury of bringing Tierney, Gautrey and Will White off replacing them with Joe Spooner, Reece Davies and new signing George Carrington.
Osborne completed his hat trick on 65 mins when he scored from close range after being assisted by Lunt.
The S & A defence of Jack Sawyer, Jamie McCormack, Spooner and captain Tom Haworth kept Castle at bay as they tried to source a consolation goal.
There was still enough time for Osborne to score his fourth after a cross from Carrington on 88 mins.
In all a very good performance from S & A who had a number of regulars missing but again this showed the strength of commitment from the squad.
An overall excellent game for all the S & A team but it was an easy decision for the manager to give the ‘Player of the match’ award to Jack Osborne who was on fire today with his four goal haul.
