Combo of Fletcher and Haines makes the difference for Reserves in away win

Saturday Senior Reserves travelled to the Uclan Sports centre today to play Sir Tom Finney FC hoping to get back to winning ways after last weeks defeat. With four or five regulars unavailable or injured S & A started well with Adam Haines playing a midfield holding role allowing George Fletcher and Olly Morton to play a little further forward. STF started the brighter of the two sides creating a couple of chances after winning two or three corners. S & A settled and had Haines to thank after carrying the ball from a deep midfield position into the STF half playing in Sean Doran who slotted a pass to Top scorer Antonio Berisha who scored easily (18 mins).
On 20 mins S & A lost captain Lewis Thornton after he was concussed from a bad kick in the face. With blood pouring from a badly cut lip he was replaced by Stephen Green who slotted in at right back and Harman Von Arragon moving into centre half. Not even a yellow from the referee but we are now down a man.
Fletcher was starting to dictate the play for the visitors and he linked well for Doran to score (30 mins) from the edge of the box after good pressure from forwards Berisha and Ethan Stroud. The game was becoming a game of fouls with the home team consistently giving away free kicks. Next to leave the field of play was Von Arragon after he pulled up in his own box. Robson Baldwin came on and slotted in at left back. Joe Spooner now becoming Jamie McCormacks third partner of the opening 35 mins. Stroud was then clattered from behind which resulted in a yellow for the STF left back. At half time both Morton (back injury) and Stroud (calf injury) asked to come off but with only Luca Intanozzo left to bring on Stroud said he would carry on.
Ht : 0-2
The second half was dominated by S & A with some clever interplay from the back to the front as they carved out more chances. After 58 mins Doran should of scored but shot wide. Fletcher put the game beyond STF with a cute lob over the keeper (63 mins) to make it 3-0. McCormack was influential at the back for S & A winning all the aerial battles. Josh Oldfield in goal was rarely tested but when he was called upon he stood firm. S & A’s job became a little more difficult when striker Berisha was given two harsh yellows in the space of 7 mins. S & A reshaped but couldn’t stop the home team from scoring with 16 mins left. Credit to the ten men who saw the game out to give S & A a well deserved three points. Man of the match was a very difficult choice for manager David Stroud with McCormack going close with a great defensive display but both Haines and Fletcher get the award for being dominate in midfield for the full 90 mins.
Ft : 1-3
