'Player of the match' Barton leads by example
U12s returned to league action today for the 1st time since the 27th of November and faced a tough and physical game against Southport Athletic.
S&A started strongly creating a couple of good chances and after a slight formation tweak took the lead when Leo who had remained unmarked at the back post from an S&A corner found some space and finished well to give S&A a well deserved goal. Tackles where flying in all over the pitch which really intensified an already physical game. S&A doubled there lead when Jamie capitalised on a loose ball after another well contested 50/50 to fire low into the bottom corner.
HT 2-0
Southport Athletic came out strongly in the second half which was to be expected as they are a team who give everything and never give up but S&A who where defending excellently with George, Seb, Charlie and Joseph setting a great example. It was Joseph who started off a devastating counter bringing the ball out from the back after winning the ball off their big centre forward. He perfectly released Billy who found himself one on one with goalie and had the goal at his mercy but unselfishly squared the ball to Noah who had supported Billy’s run to tap in and make the score 3-0. The game was far from over as Southport Athletic continued to push and get back into the game and their pressure paid off with 2 quick goals the second of which was very well taken. S&A brought on some rested legs to try and see out the game and Aaron’s run through and challenge on the goalie allowed Leo to take advantage and expertly score his 2nd of the afternoon and wrap up a very well earnt 3 points for the home side. The whole squad played their part today and can be proud of their effort and desire. MOM was given to Joseph at the heart of the S&A defence for great leadership and all round brilliant defensive display.
