Saturday 1st team travelled the short distance to newly promoted Bickerstaffe FC in what was a tricky fixture against the current Guildhall Cup holders.
The first half saw S & A take control of the game but after an initial scrappy first 20 minutes goals from Daz Brookfield and Charlie Ball saw them take a 2-0 lead.
Bickerstaffe scored an opportunist goal seeing goalkeeper Alty lobbed from just inside the half that gave gave the home team the edge and just before half time they equalised to go in level at the break.
Ht : 2-2
Manager Phil Barton demanded more from the players at the interval. Captain Brookfield brought an inspiring intensity into the midfield with S & A taking the game to the hosts and with further goal from Tom Taylor-Hampson (2) and another from Ball they took control of the game. An impressive header from Harry Lawler saw S & A run out 6-3 winners. With a midweek game away to Eccleston & Heskin S & A could get themselves into some kind of form after a ambivalent start to the season.
