Sunday Senior 1st team

Sunday 1st team stretched their unbeaten league run dating back to October 2021 with a hard fought win at Royal Altcar. On an awful playing surface at Duke Street Park which can only and we are being kind described as bobbly. Using squad depth to it's full with around 10 players unavailable S & A put in a determined display playing some good football. Rich Wincer playing with a groin injury got them on their way lobbing the Altcar keeper on 12 minutes. That lead was doubled when the brilliant Sam Cope found Paul Grant who scored his 22nd of the season. At the other end Walker made a fantastic save to deny Altcar just before half time.
The second half was scrappy with both teams feeling aggrieved by decisions. A number of times S&A attacked but we're flagged offside. Charlie Gray who put in a stellar performance alongside Solaru very nearly found Grant at the back post but was denied by a toe. Altcar found a way back in when Nixon was harshly adjudged to have made a foul, the resulting free kick eventually saw a header to the back post and 1-2. Grant then saw a free kick superbly saved as S&A looked to wrap the game up. Altcar thought they should have been awarded a late penalty but ref waved away their protests. S&A saw the game out and another three points.
