Sunday 1st team started 2023 in cup action taking on inform Royal Altcar on what can only be described as mud bath at Duke Street Park Formby. S&A played some great football in poor conditions controlling the game but we're also aware of what Altcar posed on the counter. It was the home side who took the lead when a free kick missed everyone and found the bottom corner. S&A continued to press and levelled themselves from a free-kick which saw Paul Grants effort go through the keepers hands. The second half saw wave after wave of attacks. Coughlan and Grant both saw efforts flash past the post with Coughlan also hitting the upright as well. Tierney blazed an effort from close range over the bar while Langley saw a goal bound shot acrobatically cleared off the line. More and more pressure eventually saw Wincer get brought down with only 4 minutes of normal time remaining Coughlan scored from the spot. Grant added a third in stoppage time and there was still time for Langley to hit the bar from 6 yards out but did get on the score sheet when he made it 4-1 with the last kick of the game after being put through via Cunliffe.
