S & A travel in Lancashire Sunday Trophy
Manager Gareth Jones takes his Sunday Senior 1st team across the border into Lancashire tomorrow morning when they make the hour long trip to Holcombe FC from Bury in the first round of the Lancashire Sunday Trophy.
S & A have been quite successful in this competition in the past making numerous 5th round quarter final appearances namely 2012/13, 2015/16, 2018/19 and 2021/22 but nothing can match the success of 2016/17 when they reached the final.
They came up against the strong Crown Paints (Blackburn). At 3-2 down an 88th minute equaliser from midfielder George Wall took the tie to extra time and ultimately the dreaded penalties.
S & A stalwart Rob Lamont stroked home the winning penalty for the visitors from Southport and they won 4-3 on pens.
The team became the only team from the Southport area to ever win the trophy.
Here's hoping they get back on track tomorrow.
